MLK Serve 2024
Summary:
Due to the potential for severe weather impacting the Kansas City area during MLK Weekend, we’ve made the decision to postpone our planned volunteer opportunities to Presidents’ Day Weekend. We invite you to join us for a day of service on either February 17 or 19. Choose from a variety of shifts, and consider bringing friends and family to experience the impact of God’s work alongside welcoming community agencies. Let’s come together on Presidents’ Day Weekend to make a meaningful impact in our community. Registration will be open soon.

MLK SERVE DAY
January 13 & 15
Over the January 13-15 weekend, we plan to honor the legacy of Dr. King through community service. Thank you for your willingness to volunteer. If you have any questions about your registration, please reach out to Cristen Summers.
“This is the great new problem of mankind. We have inherited a large house, a great ‘world house’ in which we have to live together– black and white, Easterner and Westerner, Gentile and Jew, Catholic and Protestant, Muslim and Hindu– a family unduly separated in ideas, culture and interest, who, because we can never again live apart, must learn somehow to live with each other in peace.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Join us on January 15 from 9 AM - 11 AM at Resurrection Leawood as we grow together in our mission to develop cultural awareness and acceptance for all our neighbors.
We warmly encourage participation in our Cultural Competency training, a prerequisite for engaging in our ongoing Kansas City Mission programs. This valuable training is designed to foster a welcoming and secure environment for everyone we support. By participating, individuals will gain empowerment and education, fostering a deeper understanding of our diverse community and enhancing cross-cultural interactions. This training experience offers an opportunity for each participant to become more attuned to the needs and perspectives of our neighbors. Whether you're interested in volunteering on the bookmobile, at the food pantry, as a tutor, or in a classroom within our partner schools, this training will equip you to make a meaningful and positive impact. For those seeking to collaborate with our partner organizations, we highly recommend taking part in this training. It's an essential step towards building a more inclusive and empathetic community for all. Join us in this enriching journey of understanding and serving our diverse community! Class will be led by Carol Cartmill and James Abbott.
